As the opening date for Harmonious inched closer, something started to change. Many fans would have liked an updated IllumiNations, but that is far from what we got. On October 1, 2021, Harmonious made its grand debut after two years of planning and built-up excitement, but that excitement amongst most of the Disney faithful was minimal at best. I know this tradition will continue as Epcot evolves. For decades, the music at Epcot has always set the tone for the journey you were about to begin. Hearing these familiar tunes again during the Epcot Forever fireworks show is very special to those who have visited the park since the beginning. Epcot this year will look much different than it did back in 2019.īeloved attractions such as Horizons, World of Motion, and Universe of Energy are no longer with us, and many other pavilions have undergone significant renovations. New attractions and experiences like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are now open, and more experiences are opening later in 2023. The Epcot Forever fireworks show ties together almost 40 years of celebrating the future hand-in-hand. The finale features the song ‘A Whole New World’ and gives guests a sense that behind all these construction walls are new and exciting things to come in this world of tomorrow. During this new show, fireworks, fountains, and kites set to a musical score danced to renditions of the themes from Horizons, World of Motion, The Land, the Imagination pavilion, Universe of Energy, Spaceship Earth, and The American Adventure.Īlso included in this tapestry of Epcot history is music from the Millennium Celebration. This new show brings us back to the 1980s when almost every Epcot pavilion had a catchy theme song. On October 1, 2019, the Epcot Forever fireworks show debuted. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth Final Night Epcot Forever Fireworks Show The story of Epcot might not be as old as time itself, but like the story of Reflections of Earth, it is still being written. It was a night that marked the end of an era for Epcot and a turn to the next chapter in the Epcot story. On September 30, 2019, I was fortunate to attend the last showing of this spectacle with my family, and the picture below is one of the last shots I took of the show that night. The exhilarating story and inspiring message that Reflections of Earth provided will remain in our hearts and minds forever. Even the 19 torches surrounding the lagoon told a story of their own, signifying the 19 previous centuries and culminating with the 20th torch rising out of the Earth globe representing the year 2000 during the finale. ![]() ![]() Originally planned to last five years, its burgeoning popularity kept it around and in our lives for much longer, and it was a good thing it did. Reflections of Earth lasted 20 years – the longest tenure of any fireworks show at Epcot. Those obstructive barges will soon disappear as well.Īfter several iterations of nighttime shows, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth made its debut on October 1, 1999, for the start of the Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration. Harmonious, Epcot Forever’s replacement, has a final performance on April 2, 2023. That tradition will continue again, with Epcot Forever returning on April 3, 2023. Epcot, for years, has been the epicenter for fascinating nighttime displays of Disney creativity and storytelling.
